A Complete Guide to Cricket Helmets

May 28, 2026 • 4 min read

Facing a fast bowler is daunting enough without worrying about your safety. A cricket helmet is arguably the most important piece of protective equipment you will own. Here is what to look for when choosing one.

Safety Standards

Always check for the latest British Standard (BS7928:2013 or equivalent) certifications. This ensures the helmet has been tested against modern projectile impacts. The gap between the peak and the grille must be small enough that a standard cricket ball cannot pass through.

Titanium vs. Steel Grilles

The grille protects your face without obstructing your vision. Titanium grilles are the premium choice—they are incredibly strong and significantly lighter, reducing neck fatigue during long innings. Steel grilles are slightly heavier but offer fantastic durability at a more accessible price point.

The Perfect Fit

A helmet should sit firmly on your head without being uncomfortably tight. It should not rock forward or backward when you move your head. Use the adjustable chin strap and dial-adjusters (if available) at the back to secure the fit. The peak should sit just above the eyebrow line.
