How to Maintain Your Cricket Gear

June 3, 2026 • 3 min read

Cricket gear isn't just equipment; it's an investment. To ensure you stay protected and perform at your best, regular maintenance is absolutely crucial. Here's a quick guide from the experts at D Sports.

Bat Care

Your bat needs love. If it's English Willow, regular oiling with raw linseed oil helps maintain moisture and prevents cracking. Apply a light coat, let it soak horizontally for 24 hours, and wipe off the excess. Ensure you have a good quality bat cover to protect it from moisture and extreme temperatures.

Pads and Gloves

Sweat is the biggest enemy of your soft gear. Always air out your batting pads, thigh pads, and gloves immediately after a match. Never leave them enclosed in your kit bag. For leather palms on gloves, a slight wipe with a damp cloth can remove grit, but ensure they dry naturally away from direct sunlight to prevent stiffening.

Helmets and Footwear

Wipe down your helmet shell with a mild antibacterial wipe. The internal padding can often be removed and gently hand-washed. For your cricket spikes, brush off the mud after every use while it's dry—leaving wet mud ruins the leather and sole integrity.
